The game does offer four difficulty levels, including a story mode in case you find the game’s combat and role-playing system a bit too complex and want to focus on the story instead. While many players might be in favor of this freedom and lack of handholding, I personally would have preferred a but more guidance. Game mechanics are explained of course, but your mission is mostly explained through a diary-like story log and you won’t find any mission objectives on the map, leaving you to figuring out all on your own. The downside is that the game doesn’t hold your hand at all as you play through the story. The game offer you a lot of freedom in the way you approach the various situations you encounter in the game and there are often various paths to reach your goals. For me this wasn’t an option though, so I had to figure out another way to take care of the turrets. As you explore the area, you’ll find a generator, and with a Tech skill of 40 of as a Blue Wing, you are able to interact with the generator. For example, early in the game you’re tasked with taking out some turrets that block your way. Your job functions also affects your attributes of course, but more importantly it also limits your dialogue choices, areas you can access and possibilities for interactions with objects in the game world. There’s a certain number of preset characters but you can also edit these characters to some extent or even create your own character that you’ll use the explore the deepest parts of The Dome. Each character also has a unique trait that determines their character but also your attributes. For my character I picked Black Wing, which is a bit like the police or military force inside The Dome. Instead, you chose one of the five job functions, called a wing here, that operate within the dome. Unlike other RPG’s, Encased doesn’t use a traditional class system. To explore and exploit The Dome, the world’s most powerful governments have created the CRONUS Foundation, and you’re about to start your first day of work for the organization. The site however, has become a point of scientific, political and economic interest as it host a wealth of miraculous technologies and weird artefacts. All we know is that it was constructed by an advanced civilization called The Forefathers. This object, dubbed The Dome, covers a vast part of a remote desert and its origins is unknown. Enter The DomeĮncased takes place in an alternative version of the seventies, where a enormous mysterious object is discovered. The ideal time has thus arrived to explore The Dome and try to uncover all of its mysteries. #Encased review full#After a period in Early Access, the game finally received its full release earlier this month. The game was later picked up by Prime Matter, the recently established new gaming label of Koch Media. They launched their first game on Kickstarter where it was successfully funded back in 2018. Encased is the debut title of the new Russian indie studio Dark Crystal Games.
